Activate your five senses! Do you want to fully savour certain moments? Live a situation to the fullest? Be 100% present?

Do you sometimes wish you could fully savour a certain moment? Have you ever wanted to savour a situation to the fullest, but couldn’t really focus on it? Have you ever been annoyed after you experienced an event more like ‘passing by’ than in your full presence?
Nature has equipped us human beings with sensory organs. These allow us to absorb, process and interpret stimuli from our surroundings. We use these processes to create our perception and an evaluation of the situation. The prerequisite is that an external stimulus hits a sensory organ; this can be, for example, a sound that reaches our ear or a flavour that we taste on our tongue.
Being aware of our surroundings with the help of our senses guarantees us a moment of mindfulness. Anyone who devotes themselves to the impressions that their five senses are currently giving them is automatically rooted in the present moment. As soon as our attention unintentionally wanders, we can consciously bring ourselves back to the here and now by activating our senses. This is also known as anchoring or grounding and is a well-known technique used in trauma therapy to deal with anxiety, flashbacks and intrusions.
Activate your five senses! If you want to anchor yourself in the here and now and feel safe, try the following exercise: be aware of your surroundings. Name five things that you can see; five things that you can hear; five things that you can smell; five things that you can taste and five things that you can feel. To do this, enjoy walking through a room or through nature and actively seek sensory stimuli that can give you further perceptions. Anchor yourself in the present through these sensory perceptions – be fully present and feel life.
Do you sometimes have the feeling that you can’t really feel life, as if it is just passing you by? Would you like to learn how to be mindful and fully present under professional guidance?
