Take care of yourself! Putting self-care into daily practice can sometimes be difficult. Let’s find you some tips here!

Self-care refers to the conscious and active care of one’s own well-being physically, emotionally and mentally. It is about giving yourself the time and attention you need to maintain or improve your own health and quality of life. This includes regular rest, a healthy diet, sufficient sleep, maintaining social relationships and setting personal boundaries to avoid overload and stress. Self-care promotes a balance between the demands of everyday life and your own need for rest and relaxation.
You can ask yourself the following questions: are you kind to yourself? Do you regularly do things that make you feel happy and alive? Do you rest when everthing gets too much? Do you cultivate relationships with people who strengthen you and give you support? Do you set boundaries when something or someone drains your energy?
Theories about self-care sound great, but putting them into daily practice can be very difficult. Sometimes you may have had a long day and have absolutely no energy to actively look after yourself. That’s okay; taking care of ‘nothing’ sometimes can also be part of self-care.
If you like, observe the following aspects of your behaviour to see if you can optimise them in terms of your self-care: examine your thoughts! Do you talk to yourself like your best friend? Do things that you like from the bottom of your heart! When was the last time you did something just for fun? Take a deep breath and relax! How far will always being hard on yourself get you? Talk to people who are really important to you! How often do you surround yourself with people simply because of social obligations? If you just need a day to relax in bed, treat yourself! Do you always have to function perfectly? Say ‘no’ when you don’t like to do something! When was the last time you consciously set boundaries?
